The Fray is an American rock band formed in Denver, Colorado, in 2002 by schoolmates Isaac Slade (lead vocals, piano) and Joe King (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), later joined by drummer Ben Wysocki and lead guitarist Dave Welsh. The members met through Denver-area churches and Faith Christian Academy, where they participated in worship music. Their debut album, How to Save a Life (2005), achieved quadruple platinum status in the US and platinum in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the UK, driven by singles like 'Over My Head (Cable Car)' and the title track. Subsequent releases include the self-titled album (2009), which topped charts, and Scars & Stories (2012). The band blends piano-driven rock with pop elements, drawing from their church music roots. Known for emotive power ballads, they built an early fanbase via local performances and platforms like MySpace. In 2022, Slade departed, with King assuming lead vocals alongside Wysocki and Welsh.
