The Hu is a Mongolian folk metal band formed in 2016 in Ulaanbaatar by producer and songwriter Bayarmagnai 'Dashka' Dashdondog, who selected members from the Mongolian State Music and Dance Conservatory. The lineup includes Enkhsaikhan 'Enkush' Batjargal, Nyamjantsan 'Jaya' Galsanjamts, Temuulen 'Temka' Naranbaatar, and Galbadrakh 'Gala' Tsendbaatar. They developed 'Hunnu rock,' blending heavy metal with traditional Mongolian elements such as morin khuur, tovshuur, throat singing, and lyrics in Mongolian drawn from war cries and poetry. The band's debut album, The Gereg, was released in September 2019 via Eleven Seven Records, following viral YouTube videos for 'Yuve Yuve Yu' and 'Wolf Totem' that amassed millions of views. Their second album, Rumble of Thunder, followed in 2022. Achievements include receiving Mongolia's Chinggis Khaan Order and contributing to the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order soundtrack, as well as covering Metallica's 'Through the Never' for The Metallica Blacklist. The Hu performs with high-energy live shows featuring traditional instrumentation and throat singing, having appeared at Glastonbury Festival and supported Iron Maiden on arena tours.
