The Offspring formed in 1984 in Garden Grove, California, initially as Manic Subsidal by guitarist/vocalist Bryan 'Dexter' Holland and bassist Greg Kriesel, high school friends inspired by Southern California punk acts. Guitarist Kevin 'Noodles' Wasserman and drummer James Lilja soon joined, with the band adopting its current name in 1986. They released their self-titled debut album in 1989 on Nemesis Records, followed by Ignition in 1992. Their 1994 album Smash on Epitaph Records marked their breakthrough, featuring hits 'Come Out and Play,' 'Self Esteem,' and 'The Kids Aren’t Alright,' blending punk speed with pop hooks and achieving multi-platinum sales. The band has released ten studio albums, selling over 40 million records worldwide. Lineup changes include Ron Welty on drums from 1987 to 2003, Greg Kriesel's departure in 2018, and current members Todd Morse on bass and Brandon Pertzborn on drums. The Offspring's live shows feature high-energy performances rooted in their punk origins, maintaining a fast-paced, aggressive style that engages audiences through the band's enduring stage presence.
