The Psychedelic Furs formed in London in 1977 amid the punk scene, founded by brothers Richard Butler on vocals and Tim Butler on bass, with initial members Duncan Kilburn on saxophone, Paul Wilson on drums, and Roger Morris on guitar. The lineup expanded by 1979 with John Ashton on guitar and Vince Ely on drums, leading to their self-titled debut album produced by Steve Lillywhite. Blending punk energy with post-punk, new wave, and psychedelic influences from bands like the Velvet Underground and Sex Pistols, they achieved US Modern Rock chart-toppers including 'Love My Way' from 1982's Forever Now and hits from Mirror Moves (1984) like 'Heaven' and 'The Ghost in You'. 'Pretty in Pink' gained prominence via the 1986 film soundtrack. The band split in 1991, with the Butlers forming Love Spit Love, before reforming in 2000. Known for intense live performances that built a strong college radio and touring following in the US during the early 1980s, they continue with core members Richard Butler, Tim Butler, and John Ashton.
