The String Cheese Incident is an American jam band formed in 1993 in Crested Butte, Colorado. The core lineup has included Bill Nershi, Michael Kang, Michael Travis, Keith Moseley, Kyle Hollingsworth, and Jason Hann. Their music is commonly described as a mix of jam band, progressive bluegrass, and neo-psychedelia, with influences that also include rock, funk, jazz, and electronic elements. The group developed through performances in Colorado ski towns and moved into a touring career in the 1990s. They are known for long-form improvisation, extensive live recordings, and a concert format that changes from show to show. After a hiatus beginning in 2007, the band resumed activity in 2009 and has continued touring and releasing live material.
