Tom Odell is an English singer-songwriter from Chichester, West Sussex. Born Thomas Peter Odell in 1990, he began writing songs in his teens and studied at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music before moving to London, where he was discovered by Lily Allen and signed to her label imprint. His early releases included the debut EP Songs from Another Love and the 2013 debut album Long Way Down, which brought him mainstream attention in the UK. Odell’s work is centered on piano-led pop and singer-songwriter material with an emphasis on personal, introspective lyrics. He won the BRITs Critics’ Choice Award in 2013 and an Ivor Novello Award for Songwriter of the Year in 2014. Live, he is known for performing as a vocalist and pianist, with material drawn from across his studio albums, including later releases such as Best Day of My Life and Black Friday.
