Toto formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1977 from a group of session musicians including David Paich (keyboards, vocals), Jeff Porcaro (drums), Steve Lukather (guitar, vocals), David Hungate (bass), Steve Porcaro (keyboards, vocals), and Bobby Kimball (vocals). Their self-titled debut album released in 1978 featured the hit 'Hold the Line.' The 1982 album Toto IV included 'Rosanna' and 'Africa,' both major singles, and earned multiple Grammy Awards. Toto's music blends rock, pop, soul, funk, R&B, blues, and jazz, reflecting the members' session work on recordings by artists like Steely Dan and Boz Scaggs. The band has released 14 studio albums, sold over 40 million records worldwide, and was inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum in 2009. Lineup changes followed, including Jeff Porcaro's death in 1992 and replacements like Simon Phillips on drums. Toto maintains an active touring schedule with additional musicians to expand their sound, as seen from their debut tour in 1979 onward.
