Turnstile formed in 2010 in Baltimore, Maryland, emerging from the local hardcore punk scene. Vocalist Brendan Yates, previously drummer for Trapped Under Ice, teamed up with guitarist Brady Ebert, bassist Franz Lyons, drummer Daniel Fang, and later guitarist Pat McCrory. The band drew from Baltimore's DIY venues and community, including spots like Charm City Art Space. Rooted in hardcore punk, Turnstile incorporates groovy rhythms, melodic elements, and influences beyond the genre, as heard in albums like the 2018 Roadrunner Records debut Time & Space and 2021's Glow On, recorded in Tennessee. These releases expanded their sound while maintaining mosh-friendly energy. Turnstile maintains ties to the hardcore community through energetic live performances that foster participation and intensity, often featuring circle pits and communal vibes from their early shows.
