April Harper Grey, known professionally as underscores (stylized in lowercase), is an American singer-songwriter and producer born on April 21, 2000, in San Francisco, California. She began releasing dubstep tracks on SoundCloud at age 13 in 2013 and gained notice with her 2015 single 'Mild Season.' From 2018 to 2020, she issued EPs including skin purifying treatment, we never got strawberry cake, and character development!. Her debut album fishmonger arrived in March 2021, blending hyperpop with rock, emo, indie pop, ambience, and dubstep elements. She followed with the companion EP boneyard aka fearmonger in December 2021 and opened for 100 gecs on tour that year. underscores conducted her first headlining tour in 2022 and released her second album Wallsocket on September 22, 2023, via Mom + Pop, promoted by singles, an alternate reality game, and tours across North America and Europe.
