ZZ Top - Upcoming SoCal Concerts

ZZ Top formed in Houston, Texas in 1969 after Billy Gibbons' previous band, Moving Sidewalks, disbanded. The trio consisted of Gibbons on vocals and guitar, Dusty Hill on bass and vocals, and Frank Beard on drums. The band's name derived from blues guitar master B.B. King, with Gibbons noting that "King" was at the "top," leading to the name ZZ Top. The band developed a signature sound rooted in blues guitar playing combined with a solid rhythm section. Early albums including Tres Hombres (1973) and Fandango! (1975) produced radio staples "La Grange" and "Tush." After a stylistic shift in the early 1980s, they achieved international success with Eliminator (1983) and Afterburner (1985), which incorporated new wave and dance-rock influences. ZZ Top became known for energetic live performances and distinctive visual presentation, with Gibbons and Hill wearing matching long beards, sunglasses, and hats. The band maintained its original lineup for 51 years until Hill's death in 2021. ZZ Top released 15 studio albums, sold approximately 50 million records worldwide, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.
