EDC Las Vegas is the mothership. What began in Los Angeles in the 1990s, Insomniac throwing raves in the Shrine and the Coliseum, grew into the largest dance-music festival in North America, and in 2011 it moved to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, where it now draws hundreds of thousands over three nights each May. It runs dusk to dawn under the desert sky: the Kinetic Field mainstage, carnival rides, sprawling art installations, and fireworks at sunrise. It's the one out-of-region festival this directory carries, and for good reason. EDC is Southern California's expat festival. The scene was born here, and every May a huge share of the crowd is SoCal ravers making the four-hour pilgrimage across the desert. 'Under the Electric Sky' is a Vegas event with a Los Angeles heart.
