The jazz festival at the Hollywood Bowl is one of Los Angeles's longest-running traditions, and it's had three names. Born as the Playboy Jazz Festival in 1979, rebranded the Hollywood Bowl Jazz Festival in 2022, it became the Blue Note Jazz Festival at the Hollywood Bowl in 2025, when the LA Phil partnered with the storied Blue Note jazz brand. What hasn't changed is the ritual: a June weekend of jazz under the stars in the Bowl's famous shell, spanning the genre's legends, its soul and funk cousins, and its restless new edges. Presented on the most iconic stage in Southern California, it remains the region's marquee jazz gathering, world-class players, picnic baskets, and the summer sky.
