Nestled in Downtown LA's gritty Warehouse District, once a pre-gentrified war zone of brick fortresses and barbed wire, 1720 transforms a former garment factory into a sleek 700-capacity music venue. Brainchild of musicians Alex Alereza, Brett Powell, and Travis Richter, who cut their teeth in metal bands like the Human Abstract and Nekrogoblikon. This space retains raw warehouse bones with exposed pipes and steel, while architect Brant Ritter's design adds polish: a modular stage, state-of-the-art L’Acoustics sound system, and striking triptych artwork by Nick Knudson. All-ages and multi-purpose, 1720 hosts a dynamic mix of underground electronic, hip-hop, rock, and metal acts, from Simian Mobile Disco to post-hardcore bands like Slaves and upcoming 2026 shows by Nailbomb and Ignite. Elevated craft cocktails by Matthew Blackburn and in-house catering from Felix Barron complement the vibe, making it a neighborhood standout amid the Fashion District's industrial edge. After over a year of rehabbing, it delivers top-tier production in an intimate, versatile setting.
