El Portal Theatre - North Hollywood, CA | Concert Schedule

Nestled in North Hollywood's vibrant NoHo Arts District, the El Portal Theatre stands as a 1926 Spanish Renaissance Revival gem, designed by architect Lewis A. Smith with its iconic neon art deco marquee and rare fly system for scenery. Originally a 1,400-seat vaudeville and movie palace that premiered silent films like Blarney and later hosted Beatles mania and punk concerts, it suffered severe damage in the 1994 Northridge earthquake. Reborn in 2000 as a three-theater performing arts complex, featuring the 360-seat Debbie Reynolds MainStage, 95-seat Monroe Forum, and 42-seat Studio Theatre. It earned Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument #573 status. This intimate multi-venue hub pulses with musicals like the record-breaking Marvelous Wonderettes and Smokey Joe's Café, star turns from Debbie Reynolds, Carol Channing, and Smokey Robinson, plus world-premiere works and British Panto holiday spectacles. The Judith Kaufman Art Gallery adds visual flair amid its preserved facade. With proscenium stages, orchestra pits, and counterweight systems, El Portal delivers superior acoustics and theatrical intimacy, drawing crowds to its storied stages for live music, plays, and events that echo a century of entertainment evolution.
